The government reported yesterday that it took over the transport operations of US crude producer Exterran in an offshore field off the east coast of the country, one more step in the massive nationalization of companies that provide services to PDVSA. The energy minister and president of PDVSA, Rafael Ramirez said on the eve that the State did not take all the oil services, but only those that are core to the business and who were considered "monopolíticas in private hands, the international press reported. PDVSA assumed control of a vessel operated by Exterran as a temporary storage facility for crude Corocoro field, having recently expropriated an electric generating plant and gas compression for the same firm.
Asked about reports of alleged corruption in the administration of former governor of Miranda, Diosdado Cabello, she reiterated that "all cases gives the same speed, in this case since the beginning of the investigation."
In one day, the Ministry of Health has confirmed 12 new cases of influenza A (H1N1), bringing the official number of people infected to at 25 in five states in the nation. Health Minister Jesus Mantilla detailed during a visit to the state of Nueva Esparta that entities where cases exist are: Tachira, Anzoategui, Bolivar, Miranda and Vargas, the latter having reported 12 people infected. The minister indicated that surveillance has been enhanced at all ports and airports. He called on the community not to act aggressively against those who contracted the virus A (H1N1). He indicated that influenza affected people of Venezuela in the middle and upper classes and therefore the national government is giving them a lot of attention. He assured the public that the majority of patients were infected abroad in countries like the United States and Panama. "This shows that these nations did not take the necessary measures to prevent the spread of the virus." Mantilla said that so far they have been sampled to 354 people for the screening of influenza. According to the latest report from the World Health Organization (WHO) there are 27,737 confirmed cases in 74 countries and 141 deaths due to virus A (H1N1).
