Money is a Snap in Russia

fingersnap020708.jpgFrom Reuters:

Dmitry Medvedev, likely to be Russia's next president, says the country's so rich from an oil-fuelled boom that billions can be doled out simply by a click of the fingers.

"Money today is not a problem at all: only click (your fingers) and there you are: two billion, three billion," he said, clicking his fingers for effect during a meeting with officials in the Far East region of Khabarovsk.

Dear James,
i like this blog
i even read it
but i think that the comments here are so few isnt beacause some Key...
There are too many posts here.
Is it for the specialists? I dont think so as they know where to seek info about Russia
It is for the simple, common people like i am.
One or two posts would be just enough . Readers would be able to concentrate, understand and ,i believe, more willing to commment.

Hi Ela - thanks for the compliment. We're not at all worried about the comments section on the blog.

Dozens of readers just send us emails directly, and many others are concerned about sharing their information on any online form in case the FSB hacks it.

If anything, we would like to double the number of articles we post. Hopefully this is a website that people can check for new information 3-4 times every day.

Our purpose is provide information more than be a platform for debate (although this is certainly welcome as well).

The next time Mr. Putin wonders why the outside world insists on thinking of Russians, as he complained of them doing in Time magazine, as being "a little bit savage" and only recently having come down from the trees, perhaps he will reflect upon the apelike statements of his successor and find some illumination.

If George Bush were to make a statement like this, the world would castigate him. The reason the world tends to ignore things like this from Russia is, quite simply, that the world doesn't expect anything better from Russia.

Little wonder that Russia doesn't rank in the world's top 100 countries for average male lifespan or the top 50 for per capita purchasing power parity GDP.

It's a country being governed by baboons. And one can't say much better for those who elected them.

well...had doubts but am sure now - am old. This blog is for the young.

No, this blog isn't geared toward young readers. It's for everyone interested in Russia and related topics.

JAMES:

I think he's saying that, as an old foggie, you are overwhelming him with content. Older folks like to take it slow and easy, you know, nerves and such.

It does occur to me that you really should consider reformatting your splash page, so that you have something simple like Google with just a list of stories by headline so that people can scan a range of content and click on what they want to read, something like what Russian Spy has. I think the idea of large numbers of people visiting you several times per day just to keep up with the pace you choose is a bit unrealistic and a good deal of your stuff could get lost in that shuffle, which is what ELS may be pointing to. I've introduced a format like this at stopped publishing Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and find this is an improvement.

You're generating a huge amount of great content and need to apply a more rigorous organization and a more comprehensible interface if you want to make your content really accessible.
